先日も、はるばるルーマニアからお越しのご夫婦が、COCON NIKKOで素敵な出会いをされました。それは、マネージャーが大切にしてきた思い出の振袖と帯！「お琴を習っていた時に着ていた、思い出の品なんです」とご紹介したところ、その色合いや柄、特に帯に施された繊細な刺繍に一目惚れされ、すぐに購入を決めてくださいました。日本は2度目、日光は初めてというお二人。なんと2週間の日本滞在で、リッツカールトンにご宿泊されるとのこと！そんな特別な旅行に、COCON NIKKOの着物を選んでいただけたこと、私たちも本当に感動しました。

Just the other day, a couple from Romania had a wonderful encounter at COCON NIKKO. It was a furisode and obi that were treasured by one of our staff members! When we introduced them to them, saying, “It’s a memorable item that I wore when I was learning to play the koto,” they fell in love at first sight with the color and pattern, especially the delicate embroidery on the obi, and immediately decided to buy it. This was the couple’s second time in Japan, but their first time in Nikko. They were staying in Japan for two weeks, and staying at the Ritz-Carlton! We were really touched that they chose COCON NIKKO kimonos for such a special trip.

振袖（ふりそで）について　振袖ってどんな着物？

About Furisode What kind of kimono is Furisode?

振袖は、未婚女性が着る最も格の高い着物です。その最大の特徴は、なんと言っても長く垂れ下がった袖です。この袖の長さによって「大振袖（おおふりそで）」「中振袖（ちゅうふりそで）」「小振袖（こふりそで）」に分けられます。

Furisode is the most prestigious kimono worn by unmarried women. Its most distinctive feature is its long, hanging sleeves. Depending on the length of the sleeves, they are divided into “o-furisode” (large furisode), “chu-furisode” (medium furisode), and “ko-furisode” (small furisode).

* 大振袖: 袖の長さが約114cmと一番長く、花嫁衣装や成人式など、特別な晴れの舞台でよく着用されます。
* 中振袖: 袖の長さが約100cmで、成人式で最も一般的に着られているのがこれです。結婚式の披露宴にゲストとして出席する際にもふさわしいとされています。
* 小振袖: 袖の長さが約85cmと最も短く、卒業式の袴と合わせたり、ちょっとしたお出かけやお祝いの席などで気軽に楽しむことができます。
振袖に込められた意味や歴史
振袖の袖が長いことには、いくつかの意味があると言われています。
– Ōfurisode (Long Furisode):
With sleeves measuring approximately 114 cm, this type of kimono has the longest sleeves and is often worn for special, formal occasions such as weddings or the Coming-of-Age Ceremony.

– Chūfurisode (Medium Furisode):
Featuring sleeves about 100 cm long, this is the most commonly worn style at the Coming-of-Age Ceremony. It’s also considered appropriate attire for wedding receptions when attending as a guest.

– Kofurisode (Short Furisode):
With sleeves around 85 cm in length, this is the shortest style. It’s often paired with a hakama for graduation ceremonies and is also suitable for casual outings or celebratory gatherings.

The Meaning and History Behind Furisode Sleeves
The long sleeves of a furisode are said to carry several symbolic meanings.

* 厄払い・魔除け: 古くから「振る」という行為には、魂を鎮めたり、厄を払ったりする力があると信じられてきました。長い袖を振ることで、悪いものを遠ざけ、清らかな心でいられるという意味が込められています。
* 求愛のサイン: 江戸時代には、袖を振ることで相手への愛情表現をする風習があったそうです。例えば、袖を左右に振れば「好き」、前後に振れば「嫌い」といった具合に。ロマンチックですよね。
* 成長と旅立ち: 未婚の女性が着ることから、成人式では大人への仲間入りを、卒業式では社会への旅立ちを祝う意味が込められています。華やかな振袖は、人生の節目を彩る特別な衣装なんです。

琴（こと）について　琴ってどんな楽器？

About the Koto What kind of instrument is the Koto?

琴は、日本の伝統的な弦楽器で、その優雅で繊細な音色が特徴です。一般的に「琴」と呼ばれているものは、正確には**箏（そう）**を指すことが多いです。ここでは、一般的に認識されている「琴（箏）」としてお話しさせていただきますね。
琴は、細長い木の胴に13本の弦が張られており、それぞれの弦には「柱（じ）」と呼ばれる支えが立てられています。この柱を動かすことで音の高さを調節し、右手の親指、人差し指、中指にはめた「爪（つめ）」を使って弦を弾いて音を出します。

The koto is a traditional Japanese stringed instrument, characterized by its elegant and delicate tone. The instrument commonly referred to as “koto” is more accurately known as the **sou**. Here, we will talk about the commonly known “koto”. The koto has 13 strings stretched across a long, slender wooden body, and each string has a support called a “ji”. The pitch is adjusted by moving these supports, and the strings are plucked with “tsume” (plectrums) worn on the thumb, index finger, and middle finger of the right hand to produce sound.
