Prologue: A Refreshing Morning in Nikko
こんにちは！栃木県日光市にある着物レンタル店「COCON NIKKO」の店長、遠藤実沙です。
今日の日光は、しっとりとした雨。霧に包まれた山々は幻想的で、雨に濡れた新緑は、晴れの日以上に鮮やかな緑を放っています。そんな静かな朝、お店のドアを開けて入ってこられたのは、雨雲を吹き飛ばすような明るいエネルギーに満ちた、4名のお仲間さんグループでした。
Hello! I am Misa Endo, the manager of the kimono rental shop “COCON NIKKO” in Nikko City, Tochigi Prefecture.
Today, Nikko is graced with a gentle, misty rain. The mountains are shrouded in fog, creating a mystical atmosphere, and the greenery seems even more vibrant than on a sunny day. On this quiet morning, four friends filled with bright energy—enough to blow away the rain clouds—stepped through our doors.
2. 3年越しの奇跡：リスナさんとの再会
A Miracle Three Years in the Making: Reuniting with Risna
その中のお一人、インドネシアからお越しのリスナ（Risna）さんのお顔を見た瞬間、私の記憶が鮮やかに蘇りました。「あ！リスナさん！」
実はリスナさんは、3年前に一度ご来店くださったリピーター様。当時は、のちにご主人となるパートナーの方とお友達カップルさんで、楽しそうに着物を選んでいらっしゃいました。私は今でも、リスナさんが送ってくださった、世界遺産・輪王寺の三仏堂を背景にした、凛として幸せそうなお写真を大切に覚えています。
私たちが今年、創業9周年を迎えることができたのは、こうして年月を経ても「また実沙さんに会いたい」「またCOCON NIKKOで着たい」と思ってくださるお客様がいらっしゃるからです。3年という月日を経て、さらに美しくなったリスナさんに再会できたことは、店長として最高の喜びでした。
The moment I saw Risna, who is from Indonesia, my memories came flooding back. “Oh! Risna-san!”
Risna is a returning guest who first visited us three years ago. Back then, she was here with her then-fiancé (now her husband) and another couple. I still vividly remember the photo she sent me—a dignified and happy shot of her in a kimono with the Sanbutsudo of Rinno-ji Temple in the background.
The reason we were able to celebrate our 9th anniversary this year is because of guests like her who think, “I want to see Misa again” or “I want to wear a kimono at COCON NIKKO again,” even after many years. Reuniting with Risna, who has become even more beautiful over the last three years, was the greatest joy for me as a manager.
3. 日本で働く仲間たち：多文化が交差するお支度時間
Friends Working in Japan: A Multicultural Preparation Time
今回リスナさんと共に、インドネシアからイダ（Ida）さん、ニケ（Nike）さん、そしてフィリピンからローズ（Rose）さんが遊びに来てくださいました。皆さん、日本に住んでお仕事をされているお仲間で、日本語がとっても上手！
お支度中やヘアセットの時間は、まるで女子会のよう。
「インドネシアに行くなら、絶対にこの料理を食べて！」
「フィリピンの家庭料理ならこれがおすすめだよ」
そんな母国の自慢の味のお話から、
「日本のラーメンは最高！」「唐揚げが大好き」
という日本での好きな食べ物の話まで、話題は尽きません。
フィリピンから来られたローズさんは、なんと今年の10月に帰国されるとのこと。日本での生活も残り少なくなっている彼女にとって、今日という日が「日本での最高の思い出」の一つになるよう、私はいつも以上に心を込めて、彼女の美しさを引き出すお手伝いをさせていただきました。
This time, Risna was joined by Ida and Nike from Indonesia, and Rose from the Philippines. They are all friends living and working in Japan, and their Japanese is excellent!
The time spent getting dressed and doing their hair felt just like a lively girl’s talk session. We talked about everything from recommended dishes in their home countries to their favorite Japanese foods like Ramen and Karaage.
Rose, who is from the Philippines, shared that she will be returning home this October. Knowing that her time in Japan is coming to a close, I put extra heart into helping her look her absolute best, hoping today would become one of her most cherished memories of Japan.
4. 雨の日の決意：「とっておきの場所」への招待
A Rainy Day Decision: An Invitation to a Special Spot
実はこの日、皆さんはある葛藤を抱えていらっしゃいました。
「せっかく予約したけれど、雨だし、キャンセルしようか……」
雨の日の着物散策は、お着物が濡れてしまわないか、足元が汚れないかと不安になるものです。しかし、彼女たちは「やっぱり着たい！」という勇気を出して、当店へ足を運んでくださいました。
その勇気に報いたい。私は、雨の日だからこそ最高に輝く、とっておきのスポットをお伝えしました。それが、「日光田母沢（たもざわ）御用邸記念公園」です。
ここは、明治・大正・昭和の三代にわたる建築様式が融合した、歴史的にも非常に貴重な邸宅です。雨の日には、濡れた苔が深い緑を放ち、屋根から滴る雫が庭園をより情緒豊かに演出します。何より、建物の中から庭を眺めることができるため、大切なお着物を濡らす心配なく、ゆっくりとお写真を撮り、日本の文化に触れることができるのです。
Actually, the group had a difficult choice to make that morning. “Since it’s raining, should we cancel our reservation…?” It’s natural to worry about getting the kimono wet or dirty. However, they summoned their courage and decided to come to our shop because they truly wanted to experience it.
To reward that courage, I recommended a special spot that shines brightest on rainy days: Nikko Tamozawa Imperial Villa Memorial Park.
This villa is a historically precious site where architectural styles from the Meiji, Taisho, and Showa eras merge. On rainy days, the wet moss glows with a deep green, and the droplets from the eaves add a poetic touch to the garden. Most importantly, you can view the garden from inside the building, allowing you to take photos and touch Japanese culture without worrying about getting your beautiful kimono wet.
5. 「フロー」を感じた最高のひととき
A Moment of Pure “Flow”
数時間後、戻ってこられた皆さんの表情は、出発前よりもさらに輝いていました。
「実沙さん！教えてくれた場所、本当に最高でした！」
「雨だったからこそ、すごく静かで、いい写真がたくさん撮れた！」
「日本の文化に、こんなに近くで触れられて嬉しい」
この言葉を聞いたとき、私は自分の提唱する「フロー・ホスピタリティ（Flow Hospitality）」が、彼女たちの心に届いたことを確信しました。状況を嘆くのではなく、その瞬間の美しさに没入し、心から楽しんでいただく。彼女たちは雨という状況を味方につけ、日光の歴史と自分たちが一体になる「フロー」の状態を体験してくれたのです。
When they returned a few hours later, their expressions were even more radiant than when they left. “Misa-san! The place you told us about was amazing!” “Because it was raining, it was so quiet and we got so many great photos!” “We are so happy to have touched Japanese culture so closely.”
Hearing this, I was certain that my theory of “Flow Hospitality” had reached their hearts. Rather than lamenting the situation, they immersed themselves in the beauty of the moment. They embraced the rain and experienced a state of “Flow,” where they became one with the history of Nikko.
6. 未来への約束：今度は着物で「神橋」へ
A Promise for the Future: Next Time, to Shinkyo Bridge
「今度は、絶対に晴れの日に着物姿で神橋（しんきょう）に行きたい！」
最後に皆さんが仰ってくださったこの言葉は、私にとって未来への招待状でした。日光の入り口にある美しい朱塗りの橋を、色鮮やかな着物を着た4人が歩く姿を想像するだけで、今からワクワクしてしまいます。
ローズさんがフィリピンに帰国されても、リスナさん、イダさん、ニケさんが日本で頑張り続けていても。日光という場所、そしてCOCON NIKKOという場所が、彼女たちにとっていつでも「ただいま」と言える場所でありたい。
“Next time, we definitely want to visit Shinkyo Bridge in our kimonos on a sunny day!”
These words were like an invitation to the future for me. Just imagining the four of them in their colorful kimonos walking across the beautiful vermilion bridge at the entrance of Nikko makes me excited already. Whether Rose returns to the Philippines or Risna, Ida, and Nike continue to work hard in Japan, I want Nikko and COCON NIKKO to be a place where they can always say, “I’m home.”
7. エピローグ：沢山の愛をありがとう

リスナさん、イダさん、ニケさん、ローズさん。
雨の中、勇気を出して私たちの元へ来てくださり、本当にありがとうございました。
皆さんとお話しした時間は、私にとっても「ローカルからグローバルへ」というビジョンを再確認する、大切な時間となりました。
皆さんのこれからの毎日が、今日の日光での思い出のように、愛と笑顔に満ちたものでありますように。
