Hello!
I’m Misa Endo, Store Manager of Nikko Kimono Rental COCON NIKKO.
On a crisp winter day in Nikko, blessed with clear air and beautiful light, we were honored to welcome truly wonderful guests.
They traveled from far away in the Southern Hemisphere—Michael and Sophie from Australia, a lovely married couple.
The purpose of their trip was to celebrate their 5th wedding anniversary (the Wooden Wedding Anniversary).
For such an important milestone, they chose Japan, and specifically Nikko, as their destination.

Today, we would love to share a report of their beautiful kimono date—an experience that left all of us on staff feeling truly moved.
Chapter 1: A Warm Message That Crossed the Ocean
Our story with Michael and Sophie began even before they arrived.
In their reservation form, they left us a kind and thoughtful message. From the moment we read it, we couldn’t wait to meet them.
Message at the time of reservation:
“We are from Australia. We are celebrating our 5 year anniversary. Looking forward to our meeting.”
Even in just a few words, we could feel their sincerity and how special this journey was to them.
They told us they would be staying in Japan for a full month, enjoying Japanese culture with their family.
Among all those experiences, they chose a kimono experience at COCON NIKKO as one of the highlights of their trip—and that meant the world to us.
Chapter 2: Sophie’s Styling — The Blooming Beauty of Japan
The moment Sophie stepped into our shop, the entire space seemed to brighten.
She is truly beautiful, with a gentle kindness that radiates from within and an effortlessly charming presence.
The Chosen Kimono: Elegant Red with Traditional Motifs
As she selected her kimono, Sophie said with sparkling eyes,
“Japanese culture is so beautiful.”
She chose a lustrous red kimono, perfectly suited for a celebratory occasion.

In Japan, vibrant red is a traditional color symbolizing celebration and protection from misfortune. It perfectly complemented Sophie’s bright smile and clear, beautiful complexion. - The Patterns:
The kimono featured yabane (arrow feather) patterns and delicate weeping cherry blossoms.- Yabane: A lucky motif associated with warding off evil and symbolizing unwavering love—perfect for a wedding anniversary.
- Weeping Cherry Blossoms: Graceful and elegant, expressing refined Japanese beauty.
Cute yet sophisticated—this kimono felt as though it had been made just for Sophie.
Hairstyle: A Gorgeous Braided Down Style
For her hair, we chose a luxurious braided-down style, incorporating current trends.
Her long hair was softly braided to create a romantic, Rapunzel-like silhouette, adorned with carefully selected floral hair ornaments that matched the red of her kimono.
From every angle, Sophie looked like the heroine of a story.
Chapter 3: Michael’s Styling — A 195cm Samurai Look
Then, Michael.
The moment he entered the shop, the staff collectively gasped—his presence was striking.
Standing at 195 cm tall, he is stylish, handsome, and has a wonderful smile.
The Chosen Outfit: Classic Black Haori & Hakama
Michael requested a black kimono—and on a tall gentleman, black creates a truly commanding impression.

- Hakama: Completing a sharp, samurai-like silhouette

Once dressed, Michael looked as if he had stepped straight out of a movie.

Chapter 4: Their Anniversary — Warming Nikko’s Winter with Love

The contrast was stunning, each enhancing the other beautifully.
Perfect Cold-Weather Support
It was winter, and Nikko’s air was chilly—but their hearts were warm.
We provided full cold-weather support with inner layers and shawls, ensuring they could enjoy their date comfortably.
“Have a wonderful time!”
With smiles and waves from the staff, they set off into the streets of Nikko.
As they visited Shinkyo Bridge and the historic shrines, we imagined them sharing memories of the past five years, dreams of the future, and the excitement of seeing Japan for the first time.
Chapter 5: Heartfelt Feedback — The Greatest Compliment
When they returned, their expressions were even brighter than before—full of joy and fulfillment.
Later, we received a message that brought tears to our eyes.
