Recently, a wonderful family visited COCON NIKKO to celebrate their beloved daughter’s Shichi-Go-San — the special rite of passage marking her seventh birthday. Congratulations on reaching such a precious milestone!
This family holds a particularly deep and meaningful bond—what we in Japan call a “go-en,” a blessed connection—with us at COCON NIKKO. Years ago, the parents exchanged vows of eternal love and were married at Nikko Futarasan Shrine, a sacred site recognized as a UNESCO World Heritage location. Now, returning to that same special place to celebrate and pray for their daughter’s growth felt like destiny itself—an incredibly beautiful story that moved all of our staff deeply.
The Fateful Kimono: “Akane” — A Dress Woven with Family Love
Before the ceremony, the family joyfully and thoughtfully selected the perfect kimono together. In the end, everyone unanimously chose “Akane”, a piece from our Seven-Year Collection that radiates refinement and elegance.
The Akane kimono features a graceful, shibori-style pattern that changes expression with every angle. Rich purple tones, symbolizing nobility and distinction, are carefully woven throughout. Delicate temari motifs—representing happiness and blessings for girls—adorn the fabric. The flowing designs on the sleeves and hem create a soft, elegant movement with each step, making the young lady walking along Nikko’s stone paths look as if she had stepped straight out of a picture scroll.
Seeing her wear this destined kimono and head to Nikko Futarasan Shrine, where her parents once vowed their love, was an unforgettable sight for all of us.
A Warm, Joyful Preparation Filled with Smiles and Laughter
Our seven-year-old guest was bright, charming, and full of life. During the dressing and hairstyling, our staff gently chatted with her to ease any nervousness—but to our delight, she was cheerful and talkative throughout, filling the room with smiles and laughter.
Her eyes sparkled as she said, “It’s so much fun choosing hair accessories!” From the many options, she picked a refined purple floral ornament to match her kimono. When she showed it to her grandmother, we later heard that it brought her great joy. That heartwarming story truly touched us—it reminded us of the deep bonds shared within their family. We are so grateful that our warm and homely preparation experience could mark the beginning of such a special day.
A Touching Message from Her Mother — and the Greatest Compliment
A few days later, we received a wonderful message from her mother, Mrs. Shoji:
“Good evening. This is Shoji, whose daughter had her Shichi-Go-San dressing done yesterday morning. Thank you very much for all your kindness.
As we looked back at the photos, my family kept saying how happy we were to have chosen COCON NIKKO for the occasion, so I wanted to send this message.”
“You spoke so kindly to my daughter during the dressing, and she was able to enjoy her shrine visit with a big smile. When we came back to change afterward, she said with a little regret, ‘I wish I could keep wearing it longer…’ That really left an impression on us. Thanks to everyone, it became a truly wonderful memory. We’d love to visit again someday.”
