The beautiful streets of Nikko are now embraced by fresh young leaves, and a refreshing breeze signals the arrival of a new season.
How are you all spending your days?
I am Misa Endo, the manager of COCON NIKKO Kimono Rental.
In April 2026, we are proud to announce that COCON NIKKO has reached a significant milestone: our 9th Anniversary.
Over these past nine years, in this historic land of Nikko, we have had the privilege of being part of countless “special days” for our guests. On behalf of our entire staff, I would like to express our deepest gratitude.
Today, along with a special campaign to show our thanks, I would like to share our heart behind three special plans designed to color your “Journey of Rediscovering Nikko in Kimono.” It’s a bit of a long story, but I hope to convey our spirit of hospitality and our vision for the future of tourism in Nikko.
1. Gratitude in Form: Unlimited “Handmade Obi Decorations” by Our Staff
The first thing I want to share is a special campaign starting in honor of our 9th anniversary.
“One-of-a-Kind” Style for Your Coordination
The highlight is our “Unlimited Staff-Handmade Obi Decoration Service.”
These Obi-kazari (belt decorations) are actually handcrafted one by one with love by our very own staff.
After choosing your kimono, the small accessories around the Obi belt are what truly pull the look together. To answer the wishes of guests who said, “I want it a bit more glamorous” or “I want to show my personality,” we created these sustainable decorations using beautiful kimono fabric scraps.
Why “Handmade”?
We value hospitality that goes beyond a manual—a “FLOW” experience where we connect heart-to-heart with each guest. The time spent wondering, “Which decoration suits you best?” and choosing together is a precious memory of your Nikko trip.
During the campaign period, you can use these decorations without any limit. Whether you choose one favorite piece or combine many for a luxurious, unique style, please feel the warmth of our staff’s handiwork.

2. Turning Nikko’s Seasons into Art: The “Location Photo Plan”
Next, I’d like to introduce our Location Photo Plan, which we are focusing on more than ever.
From “Sightseeing” to “A Scene from a Movie”
Nikko is home to countless photo spots: the World Heritage Toshogu Shrine, Futarasan Shrine, the iconic red Shinkyo Bridge, and the serene Tamozawa Imperial Villa. However, taking photos yourself can be tricky—people get in the background, or it’s hard to capture the full beauty of the kimono in a selfie.
In our plan, a professional photographer who knows Nikko inside out will accompany you. We produce the “perfect shot” by calculating everything: the way the light hits, the best angles for the kimono, and above all, your natural smile.
The 2026 Concept: A Journey of Rediscovery
In 2026, our theme is “From Local to Global.”
For locals, we offer a rediscovery of how beautiful Nikko truly is. For international guests, we offer the moving experience of harmony between nature and traditional Japanese beauty. Standing before the camera in the crisp air, wrapped in a kimono, is more than just a photo shoot—it is an immersive experience where you feel deeply connected to the history of Nikko.
3. Deepening Bonds: The “Anniversary Plan”
“Today is a special day.”
We often hear these words from guests visiting our shop.
Shedding the Everyday, Wearing Gratitude
Whether it’s a birthday, wedding anniversary, proposal, or a “treat for yourself,” our Anniversary Plan is designed to celebrate these life milestones. Wearing a kimono has a magical power to pull you away from the mundane and settle your heart. Words of thanks that are usually hard to say seem to flow naturally while walking the beautiful streets of Nikko in traditional dress.
COCON NIKKO’s Commitment: Comfortable Dressing
Many people think kimono are painful or restrictive. However, our professional techniques ensure a fit that doesn’t lose its shape even after long walks, yet remains comfortable. Our job is to create the foundation for you to enjoy your “best day”—eating delicious food, touching history, and enjoying slow conversations. Seeing our guests lose themselves in the moment (in a state of “FLOW”) is our greatest joy.
4. Watching Over Growth: The “Shichi-Go-San Plan”
A Shichi-Go-San ceremony in the sacred atmosphere of Nikko is a treasure that lasts a lifetime for any family.
Attire Connecting Tradition and the Future
As a mother myself, I deeply understand the joy of celebrating a child’s growth and the desire to capture that moment beautifully. In our plan, we prioritize the child having fun! We avoid heavy belts or tight dressing that might tire them out. We propose authentic styling that looks stunning in photos while keeping the child’s comfort and mood in mind.
Kimono for the Whole Family
This is an anniversary for the whole family, not just the child. Seeing parents and even grandparents visiting Toshogu Shrine together in kimono is a truly beautiful sight. We are here to fully support those heartwarming moments of reconnecting family bonds.

5. The Future of COCON NIKKO
As we celebrate our 9th year, we are redefining our role.
- Sustainable Japanese Culture: We strive to upcycle old kimono, giving them new life rather than discarding them. Our handmade Obi decorations are part of this initiative. We feel it is our responsibility to pass on Japan’s traditions to the next generation and the world in a sustainable way.
- Local to Global: Nikko is an international destination. We don’t want to be just a rental shop; we want to be “Nikko Tourism Concierges.” From local cafes to hidden views and local history, we aim to revitalize our community by sharing the deep charms of Nikko through kimono.
In Closing
As the manager and as someone who loves Nikko, I make you one promise: The moment you open the door to COCON NIKKO, your “Special Story” begins.
In this landmark 9th year, with our renewed plans and decorations filled with our staff’s love, we look forward to welcoming you.
Why not wrap yourself in a kimono, feel the breeze of Nikko, and set out on your own “Journey of Rediscovery”?
