[Local to Global] The “Dynamic Stillness” Woven by the Narabi Jizō and KimonoSpring 2026 — A Sacred Moment of Nikko Captured Through the Lens

A question I, Endo, found myself asking:
“Could it be that photographs capture the essence of things more truthfully than what we see with the naked eye?”

This is my answer.

“Local to Global” — and “Nikko Again.”

Welcome to a sacred world of stillness, where the soul seems to drift weightlessly.

[Local to Global] The “Dynamic Stillness” Woven by the Narabi Jizō and Kimono
Spring 2026 — The Essence of Nikko and a Precious Moment Captured by Photographer Tomioka

What Tomioka captured was not merely a landscape.
Within his images lives Nikko itself—breathing across 1,200 years of time—and the breathtakingly beautiful “now” of the two individuals standing there as protagonists of their own story.

The Jizō statues guarding 1,200 years of silence.
Blooming cherry blossoms.
And you, becoming the protagonist of the story.

A Journey That Seals Memory and Liberates the Soul — “Nikko Again” (Spring 2026)

Hello! I’m Misa Endo, manager of COCON NIKKO Kimono Rental.

In 2026, having reached the milestone of receiving an award at the North Kanto Inbound Forum, I find myself reflecting deeply on the meaning of “capturing Nikko.”

What we advocate is “Local to Global.”

Its essence is not simply visiting famous tourist spots.
It is about how deeply you can attune yourself to the “stillness” emitted by a place’s history—and rediscover a new version of yourself within it. This is what we call “Nikko Again.”

This time, together with the photographer I deeply respect, Tomioka, we visited a sacred place slightly removed from central Nikko: the Narabi Jizō (Bake Jizō) of Kanmangafuchi Abyss.

Even for those who know Nikko well, it is considered a difficult place to photograph. Yet through Tomioka’s lens, something emerged that cannot be fully perceived by the naked eye: a sacred transparency and overwhelming sense of motion.

Chapter 1: The Essence — What Is Revealed Beyond the Naked Eye

We believe we understand the world through sight.

But when I witnessed Tomioka’s process and saw the finished photographs, I was struck by a realization:

“Perhaps a camera lens captures the essence more truthfully than our eyes.”

Within those images were the flow of time and the subtle trembling of air—elements we usually overlook—captured vividly and almost dreamlike.

1. Motion Within Stillness

The Narabi Jizō are unmoving stone statues.

Yet in Tomioka’s work, they seem to breathe—almost as if quietly speaking to us.

Within silence exists a palpable historical energy.
To discover “movement” within the immobile—this delicate balance defines Tomioka’s artistry.

2. The Magic of Floating and Transparency

The first words that escaped me upon seeing the photos were: “How precious…”

Guests dressed in kimono appear as if gently floating within the protection of the Jizō statues.

A sense of pure, crystal-clear transparency.

It felt as though a precious moment had been vacuum-sealed and preserved within a sparkling crystal.

Chapter 2: The Palette — There Is No Such Thing as the Same Green in Nature

What moved me most was the layered colors of Kanmangafuchi.

Like an Oil Painting, Like a Watercolor

The scenery before us resembled a masterpiece painted by an unknown great artist.

  • The depth of green:
    Fresh young leaves
    Moss deeply etched with history
The jade-like green of the Daiya River

There is no single “green” in Nikko’s nature.

  • A harmony of tones:
Some areas carry the weight of oil paintings
    Others the softness of watercolor

Each tree, each leaf carries its own “color of life.”

Tomioka’s photography captures even the most subtle differences.

This perfect, uncalculated balance of color stirred me deeply—not only emotionally, but also as a color coordinator.

Chapter 3: The Protagonists — Everything Is the Main Character, Everything Is in Harmony

Why is this location so difficult to photograph?
Because the presence of the Jizō statues and towering trees is overwhelmingly strong.

Yet through Tomioka’s direction, an extraordinary harmony was achieved.

The Moment You Become the Protagonist

Standing in kimono at the same eye level as the Jizō, feeling Nikko’s breeze—

In that moment, everything becomes a protagonist:
the statues, the trees, the flowing river—and you.

  • Dignified beauty:
The lines of the kimono blend seamlessly with the background
  • Respect for the Jizō:
A reverence for history naturally reflects in your expression
  • Sealing the story:
Softly, gently, like preserving something precious

The photograph allows you to feel as though you have stepped into the role of the story’s main character.

Chapter 4: The Innovation — A “Local to Global” Challenge

Over the past year, together with Tochigi Prefecture and our collaborators, we have refined how to deliver these “invisible values” to the world.

1. Preparation with 120% Passion

If Tomioka’s lens captures essence, we must prepare a style worthy of it.

Not just comfortable and stable—but styled in harmony with the day’s light and location’s colors.

2. “Nikko Again” — A Journey of Rediscovery

Just a few hours from Tokyo lies this otherworldly stillness.

As “Nearby Tokyo,” we aim to share this sacred transparency with the world.

This is COCON NIKKO’s mission for 2026.

Closing: A Fragment of Eternity for You (Spring 2026)

Thank you for reading to the end.

The moment a shutter clicks, it becomes the past.

Yet Tomioka’s photographs feel as though they connect to the future.

“That day, in front of those Jizō, I stood in such beautiful light.”

That memory remains within you as a sparkling fragment.

In difficult moments, when you look back at the photo,
the sacred air of Nikko—and your dignified self from that day—will support you again and again.

With pride in receiving this award,
and gratitude for the past year—

Spring 2026.
