[Story of Our Guests] Smiles from Taiwan: A Harmony of Purple and Indigo Amidst the History of Nikko

Hello! I am Misa Endo, the manager of COCON NIKKO. We are located in the World Heritage site of Nikko, where we strive to add vibrant colors to your heart through the art of kimono.

The season of refreshing breezes has arrived, making the breath of history feel even closer than usual. In April 2026, COCON NIKKO celebrated its 9th anniversary, a significant milestone that has fueled our passion to pursue the true essence of “Omotenashi” (hospitality).

Today, I would like to share the story of a wonderful young couple who traveled all the way from Taiwan. This special day began with the warm heart of Ms. Aya, who wished for the couple to experience the history and culture of Nikko to their heart’s content.

Chapter 1: A Story Woven in Colors

The couple’s coordination was a sophisticated blend that harmonized beautifully with the Nikko streetscape and the fresh spring greenery.

• The Lady: A Pale Purple Kimono

• The shades of pale purple, combining elegance and grace, perfectly highlighted her soft and gentle aura.

• The Gentleman: A Gray Kimono with a Navy Haori

• By pairing a calm gray with a deep navy haori, he achieved an urban and intellectual look. The contrast between the two when standing together was stunning, and seeing them walk was like watching a painting come to life.

We paid particular attention to her hair arrangement. Utilizing the techniques I have cultivated over many years in the bridal and beauty industries, I created an elegant style focused on “the beauty of flow”. Our shop’s original hair ornaments, which matched the color of her kimono, blended seamlessly with the professional styling to create a unique and radiant look.

Along with my staff member, Runa Kodaira, seeing the radiant smiles on their faces the moment they looked in the mirror was the greatest reward for us.

Chapter 2: A Luxurious Moment Touched by History

After completing their preparations, the couple headed to the symbolic heart of Nikko: Nikko Toshogu Shrine.

From the breathtakingly gorgeous Yomeimon Gate to the serene Inner Shrine, walking the approach in traditional kimono must have been a special experience—one where they could forget the bustle of modern life and feel the weight of history. Seeing them pray so earnestly showed a beautiful respect for culture that transcends borders.

Following their visit, they went to the historic Western-style restaurant, Meiji-no-Yakata, located nearby.

Dressed in traditional kimono inside a stone building that retains the charm of the “Bunmei Kaika” (Japanese Westernization) era, their dining experience was the epitome of a “Flow” state—a perfect harmony between East and West, and the past and the present.

This is exactly what I advocate as “Flow Hospitality”—creating an environment where guests can lose themselves in the situation and enjoy it from the bottom of their hearts.

Chapter 3: A Heartwarming Message from Ms. Aya

Later, I received a message from Ms. Aya, who accompanied them, that moved me to tears.

Message from Ms. Aya

“Thank you so much! Manager Misa Endo and Luna (Runa) of COCON NIKKO, thank you truly for yesterday. You put your heart into every detail of the dressing for these two young people from Taiwan, bringing out the maximum beauty of the kimono. The hair styling, in particular, was very professional, and they were both delighted.

The visit to Toshogu Shrine and the meal and photo session at the historic ‘Meiji-no-Yakata’ became unforgettable memories for them. We were able to deeply experience the beauty of traditional Japanese kimono, and I am so glad we chose COCON NIKKO. Thank you from the bottom of my heart. If there is another opportunity, we would love to visit again!”

Chapter 4: Japan and Taiwan: Two Resonating Hearts

Welcoming these guests from Taiwan allowed me to feel the deep cultural ties between Japan and Taiwan once again. Through our interaction, I noted several “shared virtues”:

• Respect for Tradition: Both Japanese and Taiwanese people share a heart that treasures old buildings and traditional decorations as “treasures to be protected”.

• Delicate Hospitality: While Japan has its “Omotenashi” and Taiwan has its “Renqingwei” (warm-heartedness), the meticulous care and consideration for others share the same roots.

• Love for Historic Architecture: The Meiji and Taisho-era Western styles, like that of “Meiji-no-Yakata,” resonate with the historic buildings carefully preserved in Taiwan, creating a shared aesthetic of nostalgia and admiration.

Seeing the couple enjoy Nikko in their kimonos was the physical embodiment of my vision, “Local to Global”—bringing the local charm of Nikko to the world.

Conclusion: Seeds of Memories for the Future

I sincerely hope that for these two young people from Taiwan, this day remains etched in their hearts as “the brightest day in Japan”.

A kimono is more than just clothing. It is a “magical vessel” that aligns the wearer’s heart and integrates them with the atmosphere of the land. We will continue to help each guest become the person they wish to be and help build lifelong memories in Nikko.

To everyone in Taiwan and all over the world:
